More on Turn Off TV Week

Last week's post generated some feedback and I wanted to pass it along. Rather than bury the thoughts as 'comments' I'm creating a post so they are front and center. Enjoy!

From Max Eliot Anderson, author of an outdoor adventure series for boys (titles below) and the Books for Boys blog.

Let 'em READ a movie this summer. Several young readers have reported that reading one of my action-adventures & mysteries is like being in an exciting or scary movie. This comes from my extensive background of dramatic film and video production. My books are first targeted for boys ages 8 - 13. But girls like the books also.

Books are ranked by Accelerated Reader. They can be ordered from Baker & Taylor and Amazon.com. Books ordered directly from the author will be signed. Email for details.

Newspaper Caper, Terror at Wolf Lake, North Woods Poachers, Mountain Cabin Mystery, Big Rig Rustlers, Secret of Abbott's Cave, and Legend of the White Wolf. Readers and reviewers alike compare Max's books to Tom Sawyer, The Hardy Boys, Huck Finn, Nancy Drew, Tom Swift, Scooby-Doo, Lemony Snicket, and adventure author Jack London.

So this summer turn off the TV, turn off the computer, and let 'em READ a movie.

From Barbara Cairns, children's book author.

What a GREAT IDEA, Terry! If anyone out there is interested in history, told partly by a cow, (:-) have them check out my new book, CRACKER COW A Narrative of Florida History. It can be found through Internet Explorer.(It's not googled yet.) Stop by and see reviews and leave a message in my guest book. A copy has been requested for the Florida Governor's Mansion Library... It's for kids of all ages!

From Brad Hauber, Bublegum Books, publisher of Topsy-Turvy Towel, a BookSense Top 10 Children's Pick.

Thanks for the update. Interestingly, our illustrator and author created the promotional poster for this year's TV-Turnoff Week. It can be seen at www.tvturnoff.org. One of our books, The Things A String Can Be, was also the centerpiece of a nationwide contest held by the organizers of TV-Turnoff Week.

The Reading Tub has reviewed all three of our books: The Things a String Can Be, Something Shiny, Something Round, and The Topsy-Turvy Towel.
