For the Love of Libraries

For my next installment of Reading Tub® history, we'll go to the library.

The library has always been one of my favorite places. I loved scanning the shelves when I was a kid, and when I was in college I had the opportunity to work in the University library each of my four years and during the summers. There is something about wandering the stacks and learning about things you'd never even imagined thinking about. [Confession: I even had plans to BE a librarian some day!]

Well, I wanted to somehow create that opportunity for Reading Tub® visitors. Even though we operate in a virtual plane and the Internet gives us global reach, I still wanted visitors to have a home-town connection. When it comes to reading, the library is tops.

Whenever you read a Reading Tub® profile, you'll see a box at the bottom of the page called "reserve at your library." That box takes you to our directory of libraries. I have found the community library for every visitor to the Reading Tub who has registered and shared a zip code (which is TOTALLY impersonal data) .

* We have more than 750 libraries in our directory.
* We have at least one library in 45 US states. Still missing: Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico and North Dakota.
* We have at least one library in every Canadian province.
* We have libraries (generally only one) on six continents: North America, Australia, Europe, Africa (including the Middle East), and Asia. Missing: Central/South America and Russia.
