The Partnership for Reading is offering a free 40-page booklet to help children become better readesr. The Partnership for Reading is a collaborative effort of the National Institute for Literacy, the US Department of Education, and the National Institute for Child Health and Development. As written in the eMail:

"The booklet will give you activities that you can do with your children, ages five to ten years, to help them read better."

School is in the Bag

Odds are your kids are already back to school ... but some school districts don't resume until after Labor Day, so hopefully this note is perfectly timed!

I have culled through the Book Bag on the Reading Tub® Web site to find some books that can help ease the butterflies of those heading to school for the first time, those who still get nervous even though this is "old hat," some titles that you may find useful for reinforcing basic skills, and (unfortunately) some books to help with bullying.

The list is grouped into early workbooks, picture books, early reader books and Middle School books (for kids transitioning from elementary school). If you have a favorite that worked in your house, please add a comment.

Your Chance to Help Kids

Stacey Kannenberg, award-winning author of Let's Get Ready for Kindergarten and Let's Get Ready for First Grade is working with Mom Central Consulting on a PBS show for this fall.

Stacey is looking for some moms who would like to sample a FREE DVD of a new PSB Show coming out in September. "We are looking for mother's with preschoolers ages 2-5 who will view it with their kids and give us feedback in a short survey." Here's the link:
